Labour and Employment Department, Gujarat’s activities can be dividedbroadly into two wings pertaining to Labour and Employment. Labour wing isresponsible for the implementation of 28 Labour Laws (Central & State) witha view to establishing and maintaining peace in the Industrial Establishments.Employment wing is responsible for Registration, Sponsoring and givingVocational Guidance to the interested candidates and collection of EmploymentMarket Information. Its Objective, Deciding rules and regulations for workerwelfare, Labour Training and Human Empowerment.
The state government has also been making conscious efforts to revive the local economy through the provision of better infrastructure and improved governance. According to the National Sample Survey Organisation (NSSO) 50th round survey results(1993-
94), the proportion of usually employed male workers in the city was 76.4 percent and for female workers it was quite high. The government of Gujarat’s Directorate of Employment & Training, isan organisation with an ISO 9001:2000 certification and imparts employment and training facilities to a vast number of youth looking for career options in the state. It provides employment services through a network of 41 employment exchanges Employment Exchanges/ Offices. The youth who are looking for career options in central government establishments, state government establishments and various public sector undertakings of the state and central govt. In Gujarat can register their names in the employment exchanges at the various districts such as Mehsana, Nadiad, Palanpur Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, Junagadh, Jamnagar, Gandhinagar. For the youth with higher qualifications, the govt. has set up placement cells and university employment information centres.
The state has a number of central and state govt establishments, whichoffer good career options. Some of the govt. establishments offering good career growth in the field of academics and research are Information and Library Network Centre, Ahmedabad, Directorate of Groundnut Research, Sainik School Balachadi, Vector Control Research Centre, CEPT University, Navsari Agricultural University, Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar, Institute for Plasma Research, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). Othe rorganisation which are present in the state where one can look for a good career growth are Department of Health & Family Welfare, Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation, National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), which has its head office its in ANAND. Gujarat State Fertilizers and Chemicals ltd., a state owned producer of Urea NPK, Mocromix, Gypsum, Sulphuric Acid, Bio-fertilizersand other chemicals. Gujarat Steel Corporation Limited (GSCL), a group of Essar steel has its head quarters in the state with branches all over the country. |
